    The First Spiritual Exercises

Walk more closely with Jesus this Lent - learn the spiritual practice at the heart of life for Jesuits (including our Pope Francis).  Join Sacred Ground Spiritual Directors Darlene Tucker (parishioner) and Linda Bennett-Graves as we discover The First Spiritual Exercises, a five-week exploration of deepening and enriching faith. The program runs five consecutive Saturdays, March 9 to April 6, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m., in School Conference Room 1313. The cost is $50 per person for the entire series, and includes the book The First Spiritual Exercises by Michael Hansen, S.J. and a journal. Only 20 spots are available, so register soon!
    About our presenters:
Darlene Tucker and her husband, Tom, are St. Odilia parishioners. Darlene is a Spiritual Director with Sacred Ground Center for Spirituality in St. Paul. She went through their three year training and was certified by Sacred Ground in 2009 and was trained to give the Extended Ignatian Exercises in 2011.  She presently serves on Sacred Ground’s board of trustees.

"It is an honor and a privilege to companion someone as they seek to deepen their awareness of God in their lives.  St. Ignatius gave us wonderful ways to deepen our prayer and grow spiritually.  Each time I experience the Exercises I have gained more and more.  I am so excited to share this experience with you."

Linda Bennett-Graves is a parishioner at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Minneapolis.  She is a Sacred Ground certified spiritual director and has been companioning others on their faith journeys for 11 years as well as directing the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius.  She is a past member and chair of the board of directors of Sacred Ground and of Bridging, Inc.

"The greatest spiritual joy in my life is when I heard God speak to me....yes me! in scripture.  It is a joy I seek to share with others and the ‘First Spiritual Exercises’ enables me to do just that.  Won't you join me to hear that still, small voice in your own heart?"
Register online here; if you prefer, paper registration forms are available in the parish office and the Faith Formation office.  Questions? Contact Lucy Arimond, Director of Adult Formation and Evangelization, arimond@stodilia.org, 651-415-3331.

     Our Lady of Guadalupe

St. Odilia has the privilege of being a parish for people of many cultures and histories, but one of our biggest groups is our Latino community.

Everyone is invited to worship with the Latino community at our 12:45 Mass, which is in Spanish. If you don't speak Spanish and want a bilingual worship aid, contact Lucy Arimond, Director of Adult Formation and Evangelization, arimond@stodilia.org, 651-415-3331.

DID YOU KNOW that, in 1945, Pope Pius XII named Our Lady of Guadalupe as the “Patroness of the Americas”? So she is Blessed Mother for all of us, not just for people of Mexican or other Latino heritage.

Our Anglo-Latino collaborations are co-sponsored by the Hispanic Leadership Council and the Social Justice Council. For more information, contact Lucy Arimond.

    Our Muslim-Christian Connection Continues

Ever wished we could do something to build bridges between Christians and Muslims?
    We’ve made a good start – now let’s continue!

Watch this page for future events!

Missed our April 25 All About Islam program?
Want some reading on the topic?

About 80 St. Odilia parishioners, plus our Muslim guests from the Imam Husain Islamic Center, gathered here for Dr. Odeh Muhawesh’s very informative presentation. If you missed it, you might want to read his latest book, Islam & Christianity: Brothers at Odds – published in 2016 by the Imam Mahdi Association Marjaeya (a Shiite Muslim press). As a Muslim scholar who also teaches at the University of St. Thomas, Dr. Muhawesh presents a very clear picture of Shiite Muslim beliefs and practices, with comparisons to Christianity from the perspective of a Muslim who is committed to good interfaith dialog and relations. Watch this bulletin for future events, as we continue to build our relationship with our Muslim brothers and sisters. For further information, please contact Lucy Arimond, Director of Adult Formation and Evangelization, Arimond@stodilia.org, 651-415-3331.

    Spirituality Book Club

St. Odilia has a great tradition of parishioner-led book clubs, meeting here at the church, in parishioners’ homes, or at nearby libraries or restaurants. Some of the groups have been meeting for decades – they’ve been a treasured community connection. Our longtime “Spirituality Book Club” now meets on the third Thursday of every month in our NEW conference room in the Faith Formation's office area in the church-school main building, and is inviting more parishioners to join them. At their September meeting, they will choose their book list for the coming year. For further information, contact Mary Jo Rourke, 651-483-1228, maryjoanrourke@q.com.

    “Living the Scriptures”

    Tuesday Bible Study Group
When: Tuesdays, Oct. 2 thru early June, 10:00-11:15 a.m.
    Where: School Conference Room
Cost: $9.00 total for 9 week series

    Enjoy the Sunday readings together!
    Meet fellow parishioners!
Share how the Word of God comes alive in your life!

Our Tuesday morning Bible Study program, which starts for the fall on Oct. 2, is presently full. We keep a waiting list for this group, and invite new members as vacancies occur. We also could form a new group if the waiting list gets large enough. We’re still using the very popular “Sunday by Sunday” bible study guides to each week’s Sunday Mass readings, which are published by the Sisters of St. Joseph. Small group, informal atmosphere, friendly, prayerful, relaxed. Take some time out for the Word of God, enrich your understanding of the readings you’ll hear each Sunday at Mass, and explore how to live the meaning of the scriptures in your daily life and in our world.

Note: The group has moved to the School Conference Room.

For information or to register, contact one of our study group conveners, Rosie Stahl, stahl.roz@gmail.com, 651-483-6936, or Mary Ann Ryan, maretired46@gmail.com, or Lucy Arimond, Director of Adult Formation and Evangelization, 651-415-3331, Arimond@stodilia.org.
